哈里斯接受《華爾街日報》採訪時說：“我們現在沒談，過去也沒談過連任的問題，因為我們第一年的工作尚未完成，而且我們正處於疫情期間。”近幾個月，哈里斯因被推測在政策上遭遇失敗而受到批評，她的很多工作人員已離開白宮。哈里斯是美國首位女副總統。如果拜登決定2024年競選連任，他可能會再次邀請哈里斯競選副總統，或者優先考慮另一名候選人。拜登今年79歲，是美國歷史上年紀最大的總統。如果他決定不連任，哈里斯將自動成為民主黨初選的熱門人物。此外，假設拜登不能繼續履行職責，它們將移交給哈里斯。醫生表示，拜登身體狀況良好，完全能夠履行職責，不受任何限制。
